As a busy dad that works full time, it sure is hard to find time to get a full workout at the gym. So here are my 4 tips for staying fit.
1. Every little thing counts:
Walking instead of taking the elevator. Stairs are a great way to get a quick cardio and keep your legs and glutes toned. Do this at least 2 to 3 times a day if possible. First on your way to work. Second during lunch. And lastly on your way home. If possible park your car further from work to force in those extra steps. Or get off one stop earlier on the bus or train.
2. Do 50 push ups a day:
Throughout the day, try to squeeze in 50 push ups. You can do 25 first thing when you wake up and another 25 before you sleep. This helps keep tour chest and triceps in shape or at least it helps avoid getting out of shape.
3. Bring your kids to the park and join in the fun:
Getting out of the house helps promote physical activities for you and your kids. If there are monkey bars or any type of bars to hang from, then do some pull ups and chin ups. Try to do 10 to 20 before leaving the park. Play tag or some thing that makes you sweat with your kids.
There are times when you can do two things at once. I love to do squats and calf raises while brushing my teeth. I will even do a horse stance while taking a shower. Do some ab exercises while playing with your kids in the living room.
Try incorporating this into your routine. The results will be subtle, but if you keep it up, you’ll be in great shape without having to workout at a gym.
